Instructor Training Course (ITC)

The island of El Hierro, a Biosphere Reserve and a place far from mass tourism, may as well be the perfect place to complete your Instructor Course. Come and enjoy it, train, and of course, delight in the volcanic seabed and the fauna that inhabits the Marine Reserve of Mar de las Calmas. The best diving spot in Europe? We are committed to the environment and its protection, advocating for safe, educational, and fun diving. Are you coming? Don’t panic, it’s volcanic! Manuel Tomás, our SSI Instructor Trainer, currently dedicated exclusively to training professionals, has been officially recognised as an SSI Gold Instructor Trainer in recognition of his long career (in the water since 2008). Manuel will be with you throughout the course, and you’ll also have his support in the diving world for life.

Includes:

Materials and online theory of the SSI Instructor and React Right Instructor courses.
8 pre-IDC online sessions and 6-day intensive ITC course combining classroom sessions with confined and open water sessions at La Restinga beach.
2 free days of diving (4 boat dives in the Marine Reserve), one before the ITC starts and another during the course (afternoon dives)
If you’d like to do more dives with us, you’ll get a special price of 30€ per dive.

What do you need?

SSI Divemaster certification or equivalent.
Have a first aid or React Right course (less than 24 months ago). If you are not certified as a React Right instructor, training will be provided during the course.
Bring completed online theory on the first day of the ITC course.
Medical certificate specifying "fit for diving" not more than 1 year old.
Have been certified as a diver for at least 6 months.
Minimum age: 18 years old.
2 passport-size photographs.
Photocopy of all diving certifications (if they are all from SSI, it is not necessary).
Motivation, willingness to learn, and a good sense of humor.

Structure

Online classes: prior to the on-site training, 8 sessions of 3 hours each over 4 weeks (2 days a week).
Online theory on your My SSI account.
Recommended arrival date: June 17th.
On-site training ITC: from June 20th to June 25th (both days included).
IE exams: Friday 26th and Saturday 27th of June.
Recommended departure date: June 28th.
Flexible. Some exercises can be challenging and require practice and repetition. We are flexible and will adapt to you and your learning process until you feel confident.

Accommodation

We can help you find accommodation during the course. The price of a private apartment ranges from €40 to €50 per night. If you don’t mind sharing with your course mates, we can arrange a 4-bed apartment for around €20 per person per night.
All apartments have a living room, a fully equipped kitchen, a balcony or terrace and Wi-Fi.
