Location
This diving spot is located outside the Mar de las Calmas Marine Reserve, a 15-minute boat ride from the port of La Restinga in a westerly direction. It is part of the volcanic formation of MontaƱa Roja which guards it.
Features
The most prominent feature of this place is its vertical walls, a continuation of the natural slope formed in the past, which descends to depths of over 30 meters.
These walls harbor the island's turbulent past formation, where underwater you can observe cavities and canyons, and worn lava tongues that create rocky spires.
Marine life
The marine life in this dive is very diverse. Here, you can find various types of starfish such as the common red and the spiny starfishes, various species of crabs and lobsters, langoustines, shrimps, anemones, polyps, different types of sponges like yellow or green sponges, and a wide variety of sea cucumbers and sea urchins. There is also black coral around 30 meters deep.
In the surrounding areas, you can find trumpetfish, jacks, cowbreams, white seabreams, saddled seabream, slipper lobster and moray eels, sea bass, and groupers. Keep an eye on the blue; you might be surprised by pelagic intruders.
Conditions
Due to its location on the eastern side outside the Mar de las Calmas Marine Reserve, these dives can only be carried out if wind and current conditions permit, as this area of the island is not protected from the trade winds.
With good weather conditions, access is very easy from the boat, and underwater visibility is usually between 10 and 30 meters.
Diving level
Roque Bermejo is suitable for any certification level; everyone can enjoy it, although only advanced divers can descend along the wall to 30 meters.
