Punta Restinga

This site is located just two minutes southeast of the Port of La Restinga, with very easy access if conditions allow, which is not too often. Extrictly speaking, this diving area falls outside the boundaries of the Marine Reserve, although is signaled and equipped with a similar buoys and descending line as those inside the protected area.

Features

Its main feature is that this dive spot covers the entire ending part of the diveable platform of Punta La Restinga, and once past it, the seabed drops to over 300 meters deep very quicly. The flat platform made of canyons and lava fingers at the start of the dive guides us to a drop-off where a wall plummets from 15 to over 30 meters, creating awe-inspiring cliffs. We will venture along this wall onto the northeast until we reach a tall crack on it that leads us directly up and back to the rocky reef where the boat is anchored.

Marine life

Here we can observe all kinds of marine life, as the first part of the dive is quite far from shore, giving us the chance to spot marine species that live in deep blue water. Not to mention the always present Trumpet and Filefishes, the Jacks, Barracudas and Amberjacks wandering all around here. In the drop-off and the shallower canyons, we'll experience an explosion of all kinds of fauna, such as groups of Salema, Saddled Bream, Common Two-Banded Seabream, White Seabream, Glasseye, and Green Combers, as well as different types of Eels often topped with cleaning shrimp, Groupers, Wrasses, Parrotfish, Thornback Cowfish, Anemones and Lobsters.

Conditions

Like in El Bajón, this dive spot has very changing conditions, with waves and wind on the surface and currents underwater due to its distance from the coast on the very southeast cape of the island, which can directly affect the dive. With good conditions, access by boat is easy, and underwater visibility ranges between 10 and 30 meters.

Experience level

If conditions permit, all levels of certification are allowed to dive here. Beginners can descend to 18 or 20 meters to explore the plateau and lava canyons, and more advanced divers will dive down one more step of the cliffs to a depth of 30 meters.
