Location
Baja Bocarones is located 15 minutes from the port of La Restinga eastbound, outside the Mar de las Calmas Marine Reserve, at the base of the cliffs that form the island coastline in this part of the island.
Features
The main feature of this diving spot is the two vertical rocky structures, one in the shallow base of the rocky slope between 8 and 15 meters deep, and the second, massive one, like a tower, standing over the sandy slant reaching up to 10m under the surface.
The deeper Roque has its base at 25 meters on its northern side, but the southern part drops to over 50 meters deep. It contains cavities and holes teeming with life and is reached by descending a sandy slope with stone reefs on both sides.
Marine life
Throughout the dive, you can observe different types of marine life. In the shallows and around the two structures, you'll find Viejas or parrotfish, trumpetfish, green wrasse, sea bream, salemas, sea bass, saddled seabream, white seabream, and groupers. Hidden in the walls are spiny lobsters, moray eels, shrimps, langoustines, lobsters, anemones and nudis, and even black coral branches at the deepest end.
Pelagic animals often hover above us in the blue, and it is not hard to find barracudas and jacks. Down at the sand, you may be surprised by flounders, lizardfish, different types of Rays and even Angelsharks between December to March.
Conditions
Thanks to its location on the eastern coast of the island, outside limits of the Mar de las Calmas Marine Reserve, these dives can only be carried out if wind and current conditions permit, as this area of the island is not protected from the trade winds at all.
With good weather conditions, access is very easy by boat, and visibility underwater is usually between 10 and 30 meters.
Diving level
No specific license is required to dive here. Any level is allowed at this diving spot within its own limits. Both beginners, who can explore the entire tour with a maximum depth of 18 to 20 meters, and more advanced divers, who can visit the base of the main pinnacle and part of the sandy area down to 30 meters deep, are welcome.
