Why
Tagoro
?
Let's go back to the aboriginal past. El Hierro comes from Ezeró, as the first inhabitants, the Bimbaches or Bimbapes, called the island.
Today it is known as 'the vertical island'. In fact, in the Amazigh language, Ezeró could be translated as 'fortified wall'. Let's move forward a few hundred years, specifically to October 2011.
Less than 5 km from La Restinga, the submarine volcano Tagoro was born in our beloved Mar de las Calmas. Almost five months later, the eruption ended, leaving the highest part of the volcano 88 meters from the surface. The initial disaster turned into a blessing, as the large amount of nutrients the volcano releases means life for our waters.
For the Bimbaches, Tagoro was a 'meeting place'. This is our little tribute.
